This standard deck girder bridge crosses the West Fork Des Moines River west of Emmetsburg.
Built in 1897, the bridge features a pair of deck girder spans. These spans are set onto stone and concrete piers, and are approached by modern modular concrete girder spans, which replaced trestle spans in 2011.
Commonly used to cross larger streams, this bridge likely replaced a wooden truss bridge or trestle. It appears the bridge was raised, and concrete caps added in the 1920s or 1930s.
Overall, the bridge appears to be in good condition. The structure received rehabilitation in 2011, and has seen no work since.
The author has ranked this bridge as being locally significant, due to the common design.
